“My New Years resolution for 2010 was to get back into shape and to improve my health. I was turning 40 in May and I wanted to make a significant change in my life but knew that it would not be easy for I did not want to start a program or a diet and give up like I had done for the past 10 years. We have two beautiful boys and like most mothers, I have struggled with weight ever since I gave birth. My boys are eight years apart and I started to feel like I did not have the energy to keep up with my youngest son. I was afraid that I was not going to be able to play with him the way I did with my older son because I was so much older and out of shape.
When I met with Samantha we talked about fitness, health, healthy eating, nutrition, family, Christianity and my goals. She shared inspirational material with me to include, audio CD’s and prayer cards. Samantha also provided me with a healthy eating manual, which I keep in my gym bag to this day and refer to often.
I started training at Pure Personal Trainer in a small group and the best part about it was that even though you were training in a group, everyone had different strengths and levels of fitness so our trainer adjusted the weights and repetitions according to each person’s fitness level.
When I eat something now, I think about how badly I really want it and if it will be worth it once I shove it in my mouth and swallow it. I eat one slice of pizza with a salad now versus 4 slices of pizza. I make better choices as Samantha taught me that I am not dieting…eating healthier is a way of life for me now.
My best advice for anyone who has been challenged with trying to loose weight is to invest the money in working with a personal trainer, because that will give you the jump start you need and trainers will push you like no one else will. Also, remember that healthy eating and exercise is a way of life and not a diet. You have to set goals for yourself and stick with them. It only took a year and a half for my weight to climb up 30 pounds and my body to become unrecognizable. This happened from a stressful job, late night eating and chocolate had become my best friend. “When I contacted Pure Personal Trainer in late June, I was desperate. I felt terrible about myself – I didn’t like my body, the way I felt and the way I looked in my clothes. Several years ago, I decided that I wanted to begin bicycling again. I was out of shape and had fond memories of my “fit” days in high school when I used to ride my bike everywhere (even after I bought my first car). Back then, my bicycle was not only a means of transportation, it was something fun to do to stay healthy. I went out to the local bike shop and purchased a new road bike, intent on restoring my body to the slim and fit self I remembered so well. Unfortunately, after several years of riding I had actually managed to gain weight and my cycling hadn’t really improved at all (still as slow as when I first started again).

I had decided to participate in the MS150 ride, a 172 mile two day charity cycling event to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the date was fast approaching. I had never worked with a trainer before and, to be honest, working out with weights intimidated me.
